IRS LAUNCHES ONLINE APPLICATION TO ASSIST TAXPAYERS WITH VIEWING AND PAYING ACCOUNT BALANCES
Posted By: Jennifer O'Neill // Dec 5, 2016
The IRS announced on Thursday December 1st that they have launched a new online application that will assist taxpayers with account balances to pay their accounts. The new tool will allow taxpayers to view their account balance and make payments via direct pay, pay by card and online payment agreements. The IRS anticipates that other capabilities will continue to be added to the platform as they are developed and tested.
Taxpayers will be required to authenticate their identities through a rigorous Secure Access process. To register for the first time, taxpayers must have an email address, a text-enabled mobile phone in the user's name and specific financial information, such as a credit card number or specific loan numbers.
The IRS is reminding taxpayers that they will not contact them about their past due accounts via text or email. These will only be used for initial authentication purposes with one time codes.
